BYU’s Black Menaces, a student organization dedicated to fighting against racism and discrimination on campus, have announced their plans to protest discrimination against LGBTQ+ students at Brigham Young University.
The protest is in response to recent incidents of discrimination and mistreatment of LGBTQ+ students at BYU, including reports of students being expelled or disciplined for their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Black Menaces believe that no student should be discriminated against based on who they are or who they love, and they are calling on the university to implement more inclusive and supportive policies for LGBTQ+ students.
The decision to protest discrimination against LGBTQ+ students was not made lightly by the Black Menaces. The organization, which was founded in 2016, has been fighting against racism and discrimination at BYU for years. They have organized protests, held discussions, and worked with university administrators to address issues of racial inequality on campus. Now, they are turning their attention to the discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ students.
In a statement released by the Black Menaces, they stated, “As an organization dedicated to promoting equality and justice for all students at BYU, we cannot stand by while our LGBTQ+ peers are being targeted and mistreated. LGBTQ+ students have the right to feel safe and supported on campus, and we will not rest until their voices are heard and their rights are respected.”
The protest is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 14th, at the Wilkinson Student Center on BYU’s campus. The Black Menaces are calling on all students, faculty, and staff who support LGBTQ+ rights to join them in their protest and stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ students at BYU.
The Black Menaces are hoping that their protest will bring attention to the discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ students at BYU and push the university to take action to address these issues. They are also calling on BYU to fully embrace diversity and inclusion on campus and to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
In the fight for equality and justice, the Black Menaces are standing strong and courageous in their protest against discrimination against LGBTQ+ students at BYU. It is time for the university to listen to their voices and take meaningful steps towards creating a more inclusive and supportive campus for all students.
